Jigawa AG Risk NBA Sanctions
Musa Adamu Aliyu , Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Jigawa State, risk losing his Professional status as a lawyer over his alleged defiance to comply with the decision of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) National Executive Committee (NEC) Report of the five – Man Fact Finding Committee in respect of the NBA Dutse Branch crisis.
Newsmen learnt that the NBA had sent a letter to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Jigawa State via his email on the professional body’s email hub to implement key resolutions of the Committee geared towards the amicable resolution of the impasse.
The letter that was signed by Joyce Oduah, (FICMC) General Secretary gave two weeks timeline for Musa Adamu Aliyu to reverse his steps or risk disciplinary action.
The letter titled “A Resolutions by The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) National Executive Committee (NEC) on the Report of the five – Man Fact-Finding Committee resolved “That the Nuhu Suleiman Tafida, Esq. and his Executives be recognized by the President and the NEC as the duly elected Chairman and Executives of Dutse Branch of the NBA.”
The resolution similarly directed “That Garba Abubakar, Esq. be warned in writing to forthwith stop parading himself further as the Chairman of Dutse Branch failing which disciplinary action should be taken against him without further recourse to him.”
The NBA further made bare that “Garba Abubakar, Esq. should hand over all the properties of Dutse Branch in his
possession to Nuhu Suleiman Tafida, Esq. immediately, failing which the President of
the NBA should take steps to retrieve the properties from possession of Garba Abubakr,
Esq.”
On the same strength, the letter asserted that “Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Esq. the Honourable Attorney General of Jigawa State
should be strongly advised to take immediate steps to reinstate Nuhu Suleiman Tafida,
Esq. and the other staff of the Jigawa State Ministry of Justice whom he caused to be
suspended to their various offices and positions within 2 weeks. “
The NBA fact-finding Committee was birthed in the wake of a petition filed against the Jigawa chief law Officer by the Chairman, Dutse branch, Nuhu Suleiman Tafida, Esq. to investigate the veracity and merit of the allegations.
The 31 pages petition by Nuhu Suleiman Tafida, Esq dated February 6th, 2021 accused Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu of intimidation, harassment, victimization, persecution of members and undue Interference with the affairs of NBA, Dutse branch by the Attorney General of Jigawa state.
However, the Attorney General, and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu in an interview with newsmen said that “I have never spoken with the media on this issue because I don’t have clearance from my governor, but however, I learnt this issue was discussed at NBA NEC meeting in Port Harcourt, but officially I have not been served”.
The reaction from the soft-spoken Jigawa Chief law Officer came at the expiry of the deadline by the NBA amid apprehension that the professional body may weild the big stick as deterrent.
