Justice Odili’s Home Invasion: Magistrate Who Issued Search Warrant Is A Key Witness In The Investigation — Daudu
A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Joseph Daudu SAN has called for a high-powered investigation into the invasion of the Abuja residence of Justice Mary Peter-Odili on the 29th of October, 2021, by suspected security agents.
Speaking yesterday on Sunday Politics, Daudu strongly criticised the siege describing it an “evil thing which nobody would condone”.
According to him, the siege has “a tragic effect on the administration of law and order in the country. Therefore, there is need like the NBA has said for the matter to go beyond the IGP… for the matter to be taken up by the President because whether you like it or not, the first suspects are agencies of the Federal government.”
Further shedding light on the most probable circumstances that may have given rise to the widely condemned action, Mr Daudu identified the Magistrate who issued the search order as the key witness in whatever investigation is to be carried out, as a court order cannot be given to unidentified persons without particulars about their roles, agencies etc.
“If the investigations are open, transparent and done neutrally, the Magistrate will reveal more than we already know “.
Whilst acknowledging that the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN was swift to clear his name from the scandal, he is also obligated to clear the internal image of his Ministry through ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation.
The Bar Leader concluded by urging the Federal Government, particularly the Office of the President to setup a high-level panel to investigate the incident.
