The Kogi State House of Assembly complex has been gutted by fire.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Monday morning, ripped through the roof of the chamber, causing damage to the floor of the house.
The Speaker of the House, Mathew Kolawole, who was one of the first to visit the site, said he suspected sabotage, but insisted that it would not deter House members from sitting.
“This does not affect the sitting,” he declared.
“The mace is not affected and we can actually sit anywhere and conduct our legislative activities. “We should leave security people to do their work and give us a report going forward.”
Director of the Kogi Fire Service, Salau Ozigi said the fire did not extend beyond the chamber and gallery of the assembly complex.
The cause of the fire had not been determined at the time of filing in this report.
