Chief M.A. Ajomale: A Man of Magnetic Personality Passes on — By Dele Adesina San

On behalf of myself, my family and entire staff of Dele Adesina LP, l commiserate with the family of our highly respected learned Chief, M.A. Ajomale, past Chairman of the Distinguished Body of Benchers. Chief Ajomale transited from this world to the world beyond in the early hours of Wednesday May 20, 2020.

I must confess that the news about the learned Chief’s transition came to me as a rude shock. This is because the last time we met in February 2020, Chief was hale, hearty and bubbling with life. We spent hours together discussing issues of mutual interest relating to the State of the Legal Profession, the Nigerian Bar Association, and Egbe Amofin Oodua – the Forum of Yoruba Lawyers. Those who were close to Chief will confirm that Chief Ajomale was extremely passionate about the issues relating to the Yoruba race and the Legal Profession.

He was a man with the Midas touch, an achiever, a man of excellence and a distinguished gentleman to the core. He was integrity and honour personified. He served as the Company Secretary and Legal Adviser of Union Bank Plc for many years and later became a Director of the Bank. He was also a member and later became the Chairman of the Distinguished Body of Benchers. He made a mark in the Legal Profession.

Always conscious of his responsibility in and out of office and not withstanding his old age, Chief Ajomale as the Past Chairman of the Distinguished Body of Benchers will never miss the Nigerian Law School Statutory Dinner unless he was outside the country. Regardless of his advance age, Chief Ajomale was always present at the Egbe Amofin meetings because, according to him, no sacrifice is too much for the Yoruba race. He was de-facto and de-jure an authentic leader ready to give, contribute and sacrifice no matter the inconveniences. The milestone covered by a man is measured by His integrity and where he stands when truth and fair play are in dire need of an Advocate. He always says and stands by the truth. Considering his advanced age and strength at 89, we thank God for His favour and mercy upon his life. However, l am sad, very sad that death did not permit us the opportunity to celebrate the 90th birthday we both talked about and looked forward to earnestly.

May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
