Nigeria’s Presidential Petition Election Court on Wednesday dismissed the petitions brought before it by three political parties, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Labour Party (LP) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the 2023 General Elections.
Upholding Tinubu’s election as President, the five-member panel led by Hon. Justice Haruna S. Tsammani in a unanimous decision, said the petitions filed by APM, LP and PDP were lacking in merit.
Among other grounds, the PDP’s Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and LP’s Peter Obi had challenged Tinubu’s qualification to contest the presidential election citing a forfeiture order against Tinubu’s account in the United States in relation to a drug trafficking investigation, and the validity of the nomination of Tinubu’s running mate (now vice president), Kashim Shettima.
The Court affirmed APC’s Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and ordered all parties to bear their cost.
