The Supreme Court on Tuesday, reserved judgments on two gubernatorial appeals in respect of Nasarawa and Kebbi states.
In the case of Nasarawa, the appeal was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, Hon. Emmanuel David Ombugadu.
In the appeal, Ombugadu wants the Supreme Court to set aside the decision of the Court of Appeal, which had on November 23, 2023, upheld Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress as the duly elected governor of the State, having won the March 18 Nasarawa State governorship election.
After the parties had adopted their briefs of argument, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun announced that the judgment date would be communicated to them.
Recall that INEC had declared Sule the winner of the governorship election because he polled a total of 347,209 votes to defeat his closest opponent David Emmanuel Ombugadu who secured 283,016 votes.
Similarly, the apex court heard an appeal instituted by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Aminu Bande, challenging the election of Nasiru Idris, as Governor of Kebbi State.
A 3-man panel of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Ndukwe Anyannwu had on November 24, 2023, affirmed Nasir Idris as Kebbi governor.
In a unanimous judgment, the panel resolved all the five issues formulated for determination in favor of Governor Idris and consequently dismissed the appeal for want of merit.
The panel upheld the judgment of the Kebbi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which had earlier dismissed the petition of the PDP and its gubernatorial candidate.
However, not happy with the dismissal of their petition, the PDP and Banded headed to the Supreme Court to seek redress.
On Tuesday, when the appeal was heard, Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun, who presided over the panel, said the judgment had been reserved.
