Fatal Classroom Beating: Ogun Teacher Arrested for Student’s Death

Ogun State Government has arrested a teacher, Mr Amzadjo Elijah, for allegedly beating a senior secondary school student, Master Monday Ariyo, to death.

Elijah, who was suspended before being arrested was said to have given Ariyo, an SS2 student of Obada Grammar School, Idi-emi, 24 strokes of the cane and later asked him to do a frog jump 162 times which later resulted in his demise.

Unfortunately, the student collapsed and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Abeokuta, where he was pronounced dead.

The State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, in a letter, said that it had affected the arrest of the teacher over the severe punishment meted out to the student leading to his death.

The ministry also said that it had issued a query for the principal of the public secondary school, Mrs Tamrat Onaolapo, following the corporal punishment used on the student against the established rules and regulations in the state.
