US Prosecutors to Seek Death Penalty For Luigi Mangione

On Tuesday, the United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi, stated that prosecutors would pursue the death penalty in Luigi Mangione’s case, who allegedly gunned down an American healthcare CEO in a brazen attack.

“Luigi Mangione’s murder of Brian Thompson — an innocent man and father of two young children — was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America,” Bondi said in a statement.

Bondi continued, “After careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we carry out President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again.”

Mangione is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was shot outside a hotel in New York on December 4, 2024.

He faces 11 state criminal counts in New York, including first-degree murder and murder as an act of terrorism, which carry a mandatory life sentence without parole if convicted.

Additionally two federal charges, using a firearm to commit murder and interstate stalking, resulting in death, offenses that could lead to the death penalty.
