Frontline Presidential Candidate, Olumide Akpata has expressed sadness at the passing of a renowned legal practitioner, Chief Phoebe C. Ajayi-Obe, SAN. In a statement he made this morning, he said:
“My deepest sympathies are with the entire membership of the NBA, on the passing unto glory of the Chief Phoebe C. Ajayi-Obe, SAN. However, I give glory to God for a life well spent and I celebrate the positive impacts that the Learned Silk made during her lifetime.
The Learned Silk’s life was filled with so many unprecedented achievements and she has set great examples for the members of the Bar during her over 50 years of practice. In 1989, she was conferred with the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, becoming the first female Senior Advocate from the old Eastern region and the second female legal practitioner in Nigeria to be conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate.
The loss of the learned Silk is, indeed, a sad event for not just the NBA, but Nigeria as a whole.”
He extended his sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased and prayed for her soul to find eternal rest “I also express my sympathies to the family and friends of the learned Silk. I pray that the Almighty God will comfort the learned Silk’s family, friends, and all of us – who are her colleagues – during this difficult time, and also give everyone that is affected by her death the fortitude to bear this loss.
May she continue to rest in the bosom of God forever and ever.
With sincere sympathy,
Olumide Akpata”
