DISCLAIMER: THE SO-CALLED ADOPTION OF DELE ADESINA SAN BY AREWA LAWYERS FORUM AND WHY MR. ADESINA CAN NEVER BE ADOPTED BY AREWA LAWYERS
We read with shock this evening the purported adoption of Dele Adesina SAN as NBA President by Arewa Lawyers Forum. We wish to state categorically that no meeting was held, or any decision taken to endorse Dele Adesina SAN or any other candidate for the office of the NBA President by the Forum.
For the avoidance of doubt, the person who signed the purported letter of endorsement did so on his own accord and spoke only for himself.
We urge our members to disregard the purported endorsement and vote for candidates of their choice.
All the candidates who are running for the office of the President are strong candidates in their respective rights and deserve the support and vote of all lawyers who choose to vote for them.
We will urge every lawyer of Arewa extraction to vote for a candidate who has demonstrated a long standing history of support for lawyers and who has continuously shown capacity in various assignment given to him by the Association.
The act of desperation demostrated by this endorsement must be discouraged. Arewa Lawyers
Forum is a reputable Forum with over 20,000 members across several branches. A group of less than 5 persons cannot sit down somewhere and decide for a majority of the members without wide consultation.
To this end, we urge the general public to disregard the misleading endorsement as Arewa Lawyers are not party to it.
May we also add that assuming Arewa Lawyers will endorse a Candidate, Mr. Adesina SAN will be the last to be considered as the event of 2014 is still fresh in our memories. For the avoidance of doubt and for those of us who weren’t lawyers then or who may not be aware, Mr. Adesina evicted all lawyers of Northern extraction from their pre-booked hotel rooms after he lost the election to another candidate.
That act reavealed Mr. Adesina as a lawyer who is unfit to lead the Bar as he so vindictive, abusive, selfish and self-centered. It is an inhumane act to evict a group of people from a hotel that you booked for them simply because you lost elections due to no fault of theirs.
Consequently, it is practically impossible for any lawyer in Arewa to subscribe to anything Mr. Adesina SAN stands for, how much more of endorsing him.
