DRLI organises 2nd Anniversary Discourse
Digital Rights Lawyers initiative (DRLI) is set to host leading digital rights lawyers and experts from around the world at its 2nd Anniversary Discourse scheduled to hold virtually on Thursday 7th day of January, 2021. The discourse themed “Digital Rights Litigation and Advocacy in Nigeria: How we have fared” is expected to be attended by lawyers, judges, media professionals, civil society actors, data controllers, regulatory agencies, law makers and all persons making use of any digital platforms.
The keynote speech will be delivered by the Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative, Gbenga Sesan, while a distinguished panel comprising leading digital rights lawyers like Nani Jansen Reventlow (Director, Digital Rights Fund, Belgium), Nighat Dad (Director, Digital Rights Foundation, Pakistan), Linda Bonyo (Chief Executive, Laywers Hub, Kenya), Prasanth Sugathan (Legal Director, SFLC, India), Carlos Gaio (Senior Legal Officer, Media Defence, UK), Nora Mbagathi (Legal Officer Open Society for Justice Initiative) and Endrine Wanyama (Legal Officer, CIPESA, Uganda) will explore the digital rights land scape in Nigeria as it relates to litigation and advocacy. Some of the distinguished panelists who are accomplished and renowned digital rights lawyers are expected to make recommendations on how digital rights litigation and advocacy in Nigeria can get better.
The one day event will be co-moderated by DRLI’s Co-Founder, Solomon Okedara and Catherine Muya of Lawyers Hub, Kenya. Participation at the event is free and participants can join from anywhere around the world via the link made available on the event flier or on the organization’s website.
DRLI is a not-for-profit Non-Governmental Organization that is committed to promotion and protection of digital rights through the instrumentality of litigation, advocacy and training. In the last two years of its existence, the organization has pursued over 40 cases in courts across the length and breadth of Nigeria and has been at the forefront of protecting of digital rights including online expressions, data protection and privacy, digital identity, ownership of digital assets among others.
