The eagerly awaited Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) Annual Conference holding in the ancient city of Ibadan from May 23 to May 26 received a boost at the weekend as the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) has promised to attend the conference.
Meanwhile, aside from several fully sponsored lunches and the State Banquet Dinner for conferees, it was gathered that the sensational lawyers’ musical group, Abogados Musicales will also thrill the conferees with special performances.
In a letter to NBA-SPIDEL personally signed by Jennifer Johnson, Director for International Initiatives, the lawyers’ association said: “The CBA’s International Initiatives Program has been supporting the rule of law internationally for over 30 years, working with partners in 30 countries. We are looking forward to strengthening connections with the NBA, including the signing of a framework Memorandum of Understanding with its Section on Public Interest and Development Law to implement programs that are in the interest of Nigerians and Canadians in their mutual aspirations to elevate the rule of law.”
Noting that the annual conference explores “the important intersection of public interest and governance in Nigeria,” the CBA said: “Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) emphasizes access to justice for all. From the duty to act in good faith, to ethics issues for government and public sector lawyers in mitigating privacy and data security risks, there are myriad situations where lawyers are playing a leading role to ensure that policy and legislation are in the public interest.”
While wishing NBA-SPIDEL “a productive deliberation,” the lawyers’ association expressed the desire to “join you at the commencement of activities on May 24th, 2021.”
Meanwhile, Abogados Musicales has promised to thrill conferees with special renditions during the conference. Speaking on the youth group’s highly anticipated performances, Mr. Chukwunonso Nkamuke (Maestro) said: “Abogados Musicales is a musical crew made up of talented lawyers that truly understand the concept of good music. This is resplendently reflected in the quality of performances credited to our name.
“Having performed in various events of the NBA culminating in our victorious emergence as the winners of the NBA 2020 Theme Song Challenge (which song was performed live at the NBA conference), it leaves one with the undoubtable conviction that we are the go-to crew for elite musical performances, the kind that fits the elitist culture of the NBA. When you listen to our operatic and contemporary performances, you can’t but ask for more.”
Assuring conferees that the group has signed the dotted lines to perform at the annual conference, Nkamuke added: “Keep a date with us by registering for the NBA-SPIDEL Conference holden at Ibadan from 23 through 26 May 2021.”
The musical performance is among the several fun activities lined up by the organisers to thrill the conferees. Aside from at least three fully sponsored lunches, a planned excursion, and a State Banquet, several senior lawyers have also promised to host parties for conferees on the sideline of the conference.
The conference is designed as a hybrid event. While conferees who wish to attend in-person are authorized to do so, others who wish to join virtually also have the opportunity to do so.
