A Pandemic and Patentee Rights in a Regime of Compulsory License

As much as the Corona Virus pandemic has continually claimed lives around the world, the quest to produce medication and machines to tackle this scourge has been ongoing. Advancement in science and technology has led researchers around the globe to commit themselves to developing vaccines that will prevent people from falling ill in the first place, then to drugs for the treatment of those that have contracted the virus. Also, the production of testing kits and other medical equipment have not been spared in finding lasting solutions to the pandemic.  

Usually, companies would naturally not collaborate in an endeavour to develop new drugs and all other forms of medical equipment due to the huge amounts of investment it requires. Due to this, they seek and enforce Patents to protect these investments, which give them a monopoly on their inventions.
