The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has assured Nigerians that the upload of polling unit results and use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, and BVAS will be deployed in real-time for the 2023 General Elections.
In a statement he signed, Yakubu said there is no going back on the commission’s allegiance and loyalty to Nigerians, which guarantees transparent accreditation and upload of polling unit results for citizens to view in real-time on election day, come 2023.
Professor Yakubu restated the commission’s resolve to continue with regular engagement with political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other critical stakeholders, noting that Nigerians deserve the right to know about the progress and the challenges confronting the electoral umpire, in preparations for the general election.
He said in a couple of weeks, the commission will start bi-weekly media briefings, followed by weekly briefings as it gets closer to the election and in the week leading to the election, there will be daily briefings.
Yakubu, however, called on Nigerians to participate fully in all electoral activities, particularly the ongoing display of the register of voters, for claims and objections, as well as the collection of Permanent Voter Cards, as he also called on political parties and political leaders to conduct their campaigns peacefully, eschewing divisiveness, rancor and violence.
