The Imo State House of Assembly has set up a committee to look into a petition brought before it by the Deputy Minority Leader of the House, Clinton Amadi, against the Chief Justice of the State, Justice Theresa Chikeka, on alleged falsification of her age.
Presenting the petition on the floor of the House, the lawmaker, who represents Owerri Municipal Council, said that he received the report against the Chief Justice from Ndubuisi Onyema, the director of a civil society organisation called Investigation for Safe Society Platform.
According to the lawmaker, the organisation’s director is urging the House to look into the report urgently for possible action.
He said that the petition informed that in every institution where such an allegation is laid, it always attracts immediate action but he wondered why the case of the State Chief Judge would be different.
Acknowledging the petition during the plenary, which was presided over by Deputy Speaker Chyna Amara Iwuanyanwu, the House constituted a three-man committee, headed by the member representing Orlu Constituency, Ikenna Ihezuo, to look into the matter and present its findings on the floor of the House within two weeks.
