Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, on Friday faced arraignment at the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on 20 counts related to alleged corrupt practices and forgery.
Initially, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged Emefiele with six counts related to N1.2bn procurement allegations.
However, with the court’s permission, the EFCC subsequently modified and expanded the charges against Emefiele.
When the revised set of 20 charges were presented to him, the former CBN governor entered a plea of not guilty.
Following his plea, the trial judge, Hamza Muazu, scheduled the commencement of the trial for February 12 and 13, 2024, and adjourned the proceedings.
