BREAKING: Ondo Chief Judge Rejects Assembly's Request To Set Up Probe Panel Against Deputy Governor

The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Oluwatoyin Akeredolu has rejected a request letter to set up a probe panel from the state’s House of Assembly against the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, over allegations of gross misconduct.

The House of Assembly, in a letter dated July 7 by the Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun asked the Chief Judge to set up a seven man panel to investigate the allegations against the deputy governor, Agboola.

The letter read, “By the resolution of the House, pursuant of S. 118(3) and (4) of the 1999 constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). It was resolved that the allegations be investigated forthwith.

“It is in line with the above that I request that you set up a seven man panel to conduct the said investigations as resolved by the House. And the panel shall, as soon as possible, report back to the House. “

Responding to the letter, Justice Akeredolu rejected the request on the grounds that two-third majority as required by the 1999 Constitution for setting up such a probe panel was not formed in the Assembly.
