A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has confirmed Edison Ehie as the authentic speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly
Edison Ehie is one of the four lawmakers in the camp of Governor Siminalayi Fubara
Ehie was suspended and removed as leader of the House by his colleagues in the wake of the crisis at the House of Assembly.
The court has also restrained Martin Amaewhule and Dumle Maol from parading themselves or interfering with the activities of Rt. Hon. Edison Ogerenye Ehie as speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Justice M.W. Danagogo granted the interim injunction restraining the defendants from further use of armed thugs and police personnel to gain access to the assembly complex that was damaged in a fire in October.
The court also barred the defendants from disrupting the activities of the assembly or interfering with the speaker’s legislative duties before the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The claimant’s lawyer, D.I Iboroma SAN, prayed the court to restrain the defendants based on an affidavit by the speaker noting their alleged disruptive actions.
Justice Danagogo directed the claimants to serve court processes on the defendants within a week and adjourned till December 21. He also ordered the speaker to pay N50 million in damages if the application proves frivolous.
The recent court action stems from the crisis rocking the Rivers Assembly following the protracted feud between supporters of Ex.Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara
