Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a new bail application filed by detained Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari on Wednesday, seeking release pending the conclusion of his trial.
Kyari faces an eight-count charge related to drug trafficking brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
In his ruling today, Justice Nwite stated that Kyari’s application lacked merit.
The judge noted that a similar bail application had previously been dismissed by the court, which had also ordered an expedited trial.
Justice Nwite emphasised that no compelling evidence was presented to justify departing from the court’s earlier decision.
Consequently, he denied Kyari’s bail request and permitted the NDLEA to proceed with the prosecution of Kyari and his co-defendants in the case.
