Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has donated six Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to four High Court Judges and two Judges of the Customary Court of Appeal in the state.
The Governor who said that the donation forms part of the resolve of his administration to ensure that the welfare of the judiciary is enhanced as well as ensuring the effective service delivery of the judiciary in Benue.
Making the donations on behalf of Governor Alia, State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Barr Fidelis Mnyim said Governor Alia commends the Judiciary for the services they render.
While the Governor urged the judiciary to do more to ensure that law and order was maintained in the state, the Attorney General appreciated Governor Alia for the gesture and charged the Judiciary to put the vehicles to good use.
Also Barr Mnyim who said four of the cars are for the Benue State High Court judges, observed that the other two are for the Judges of the Customary Court of Appeal in the state.
He also appreciated Governor Alia for promoting the rule of law particularly by granting autonomy to the judiciary in the state to perform optimally.
During the just concluded National Judicial Review Summit, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN had commended Governor Alia for granting autonomy to the State judiciary.
While Fagbemi urged other state governors to emulate Governor Alia, the Summit applauded the Governor for complying with Section 121 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
