The Senator representing Sokoto South senatorial district in the National Assembly, Ibrahim Danbaba, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This is coming a few months after Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, Taraba South, dumped the PDP for APC.
Danbaba, who made his defection known in a letter of notification read on the floor of the Senate during Wednesday plenary by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, cited the continued and multi-faceted crisis that bedevilled the PDP in Sokoto State.
He explained that the political ideology of the APC is in consonance with his personal beliefs.
Senator Danbaba was a member of the 8th Senate elected on the platform of the APC in 2015. He was one of 14 Senators who defected to the PDP in July 2018.
He went on to lose the Senatorial Seat to Shehu Tambuwal in the 2019 elections, however Shehu’s tenure was cut short after a three-man Appeal Panel (Justices Ahmad Olanrewaju Belgore, Amina Audi Wambai and Frederick Oziakpono Oho) sacked him, re-instating Sen. Danbaba.
Until his defection, Sen. Danbaba was the Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate following the defection of the former Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Sahabi Ya’u (Zamfara North) from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in June last year.
