National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) sitting in Abuja has nullified the retirement of some police officers.
The court which was presided by His Lordship, Hon. Justice O. O. Oyewumi delivered the judgement in Suit No.
NICN/ABJ/51/2022 – ACP ADESINA OLUNLADE & ANOR (For themselves and as representing all members of Course 21 (Force Entrants) of the Police Academy) Vs. POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION & 2 ORS.
The court held that the decision of the Police Service Commission (PSC) in its plenary meeting in relation to the regularisation of the date of first appointment of all members of Course 21 being 15th August 2002, is valid and subsisting.
He therefore nullified the retirement of some of them who have not reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 years and who have not put in 35 years of pensionable service in the force.
The claimants were represented by Edwin Okoro, an Aba-based legal practitioner while the police authorities were represented by Joseph Offor, a senior police lawyer from the Force Headquarters.
