The Hon. President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Benedict Kanyip, PhD, OFR has announced the approval of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman, National Judicial Council for the commencement of the process of appointment of one (1) Judge for the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
The State under consideration is Borno State.
Furthermore, in line with the National Judicial Council’s Guidelines and Procedural Rules for the appointment of Judicial Officers of Superior Courts, the Hon. President is calling for the expression of interest by/recommendation of suitably qualified candidates of Borno State Origin only for consideration for appointment to fill the vacancy.
Justice Kanyip further stated that in expressing interest/ recommending candidates for consideration, cognizance should be taken of the provisions of Section 2(4) (a) of the National Industrial Court Act, 2006 and Section 254 B(4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and emphasised that any candidate to be nominated must “have considerable knowledge and experience in the law and practice of industrial relations and employment conditions in Nigeria, which knowledge and practice must be verifiable.
Hon. President also stated that in Compliance with Rule 7 (1) & (2) of the Federal Judicial Service Commission’s Revised Guidelines for Appointment or Removal from Office of Judicial Officers 2015, nominated candidates must, together with their letter(s) of recommendation, submit an application letter of expression of interest to which the candidate must attach his/her Curriculum Vitae, copies of Educational Certificates, Five (5) Judgments in contested cases 2 years preceding the date of nomination in the case of magistrate and 6 Judgments obtained in contested cases 5 years preceding the date of nomination in the case of a legal practitioner in private practice, certified by competent authorities.
