The Governor of Katsina State approved the recommendation of the National Judicial Council for the appointment of Safiya Badamasi, the first female Hausa-Fulani Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as a judge of the state’s High Court. She was sworn in today, Thursday, May 7, 2020, in the presence of just one witness, because of the current social distancing policy.
Her approval was contained in a letter signed by the Chief Judge and Chairman of Judicial Service Commission of the state, Hon. Justice M. D. Abubakar, NPOM dated 4th of May, 2020.
The letter reads: “Following the recommendation of the National Judicial Court (Council) to His Excellency, Executive Governor of Katsina State, the Governor has in exercise of the powers conferred on him under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) appoint you a judge of Katsina State High Court of Justice as per the attached letter of appointment.”
“Your swearing is scheduled to be conducted on Thursday 7th May, 2020 by 02:00pm at the Council Chambers of Muhammadu Buhari (Government House). Due to the existing Executive on curtailing the spread of Covid-19 Pandemic, limiting social gathering and contacts you are allowed to come with only 1 family member to witness the occasion. You are expected to assemble at the Chief Judge’s Chambers by 1:00pm to proceed to the occasion please.”
