Senior Partner at Templars and immediate past Chairman of the NBA Section on Business Law has expressed sadness over the death of Mrs Bisi Akodu, who prior to her demise, was the Managing Partner of Olisa Agbakoba and Co. In a statement issued this morning, Mr Akpata said “I received with shock and profound sadness, the news of the passing of Mrs. Bisi Akodu – the Managing Partner of Olisa Agbakoba Legal ( OAL).
Mrs. Akodu’s demise is a big blow to her family, her colleagues and indeed to the legal profession in Nigeria. She has definitely left a huge vacuum at OAL and her immense contributions towards the growth, advancement and repositioning of the Firm, in the many years that she worked there as a Partner and, more recently, as Managing Partner, are, without a doubt, indelible.
We all must however accept the sad reality that she has moved on from this side of eternity and continue to be consoled by the fact that her impact during her lifetime was felt by all around her.”
He commended the achievements of late Mrs. Akodu and her commitment to her work and to the legal profession. He said “The commitment which the late Mrs. Akodu brought to bear on issues concerning the legal profession in Nigeria was enviable and her versatility was remarkable. She played key roles while serving on the Council of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria ( BRIPAN) and was also an active member of the Capital Markets Solicitors Association of Nigeria ( CMSA). She was also a well known resource person in the areas of asset management and financial services law.
Besides being an accomplished Commercial Law practitioner, Late Mrs. Akodu was also celebrated for her passion for children and women’s rights and the very commendable legal and social work that she did in that space.
I have since called members of her family to commiserate them. I have also spoken with Past President of the NBA and Founder of OAL, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, OON to extend my condolences to him and to the Partners and Staff of the Firm for the colossal loss they have suffered as a result of the exit of their very inspiring and outstanding leader.”
Mr Akpata prayed for rest for her soul and consolation for those she left behind. “As she makes her way to the bosom of the Almighty God, I pray that He shall grant her eternal rest and peace, and also strengthen everyone who is affected by her death with the fortitude to bear this loss.
With sincere sympathy,
OLUMIDE AKPATA“
