NBA PRESIDENT-ELECT PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR NBA WOMEN FORUM AT PARTNERSHIP SIGNING WITH NEW YORK STATE BAR

NBA President-Elect, Olumide Akpata has pledged his support and that of his administration, upon taking office, to the NBA Women’s Forum. He said this at the signing ceremony of the partnership between the New York State Bar Association (through the New York State Bar Association, Women in Law Section) and the Nigerian Bar Association (through the Nigerian Bar Association, Women Forum) which was aimed at empowering female lawyers across the two jurisdictions for success. The signing ceremony held on the 13th of August 2020.

Akpata thanked the leadership of the NBA Women’s Forum and the NBA President, Paul Usoro, SAN for reviving the NBA Women’s Forum, while expressing his excitement at the partnership with the New York State Bar Women in Law Section. He also pledged total support for the NBA Women Forum, as well as a commitment to strengthen the partnership as soon as he takes office.

He further said “As you may very well know, I am big on capacity building and very excited and expectant about what this partnership portends for the NBA Women Forum, female lawyers in Nigeria, and indeed, the NBA as a whole. In line with this, I pledge my support to the NBA Women Forum in ensuring they reap the full benefit of what I consider an epoch-making collaboration”

Other dignitaries in attendance, both virtually and in person, included the NBA President, Paul Usoro, SAN; the New York State Bar President, Scott Karson; the Chair of the NBA Women Forum, Prof Oluyemisi Bamgbose, SAN; and the Chair of the New York State Bar Association- Women in Law Section, Terri Mazur.
