The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday announced the arrest of billionaire businessman, Chief Afam Mallinson Emmanuel Ukatu for allegedly being behind the N3 Billion illicit drug deal over which suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari is currently facing trial.
The NDLEA in a statement signed by its Media & Advocacy director, Femi Babafemi, noted that Ukatu was arrested on Wedneday, April 13, 2022 at the MM2 terminal of the Lagos airport on his way to Abuja after several months of surveillance and Ukatu’s evasion of arrest.
According to the NDLEA, investigations by the agency revealed that the businessman had allegedly been involved in the importation of large consignments of different brands and dosages of Tramadol Hydrochloride, ranging from 120mg, 200mg and 250mg, which are all illicit.
NDLEA also accused Ukatu of using his engagement in the pharmaceutical and plastic manufacturing industries as a front for importing illicit drugs into Nigeria, in addition to owning over 103 bank accounts allegedly used for money laundering.
