Nigerian Law School Hikes Tuition Fee to N476,000
The Nigerian Law School has increased its tuition fee to N476,000 for students admitted for the 2023/2024 session, representing nearly a 200% hike.
This was revealed in a circular that was received on Thursday and signed by the director general of the law school, Isa Chiroma. The enormous increase coincides with financial difficulty as a result of President Bola Tinubu’s administration eliminating fuel subsidies.
Compared to the approximately N296,000 that Law School students previously paid, the new tuition is a substantial increase. Given the difficult economic conditions that millions of Nigerians are enduring, the raise has provoked resentment.
The ten-year fuel subsidy was to stop, according to President Tinubu’s May 2023 announcement, which was based on financial concerns. Unfortunately, the approach has resulted in increased prices for goods and services, leaving many citizens living in extreme poverty.
The nearly tripling of law school tuition, according to critics, makes it unaffordable for prospective attorneys from underprivileged backgrounds to finish their education. There are worries that this action may further restrict access to the legal field.
