Nigeria's IT Agency unveils Data Protection Regulation Framework To Stakeholders
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on Tuesday in Lagos presented the implementation framework of the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and the National Cloud Computing Policy (NCCP) to stakeholders in the Information Technology Industry.
According to the agency’s Director-General Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, represented by Director, E-government, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the NDPR was launched on the 25th of January 2019 , while the NCCP was launched on May 17 .
Olatunji noted that the NDPR was issued with the objective of safeguarding the rights of natural persons to data privacy, fostering safe-conduct for transactions involving the exchange of personal data, enabling Nigerian businesses to be globally compliant and competitive, and to create jobs for eligible Nigerians.”
The NCCP on the other hand, Olatunji said, “was made to give a clear direction for the nation about cloud storage and computing.”
Olatunji congratulated shareholders in the IT sector for the “gradual but sure progress being made despite daunting economic and environmental challenges facing us as a nation and even globally.”
The National Cloud Computing Implementation Strategy framework was presented for stakeholders scrutiny by Mr. Lukman Lamid (E-government and Regulations Dept. NITDA, and Nigeria Data Protection Implementation framework was presented by Olufemi Daniels, NDPR Desk Officer, NITDA.
This was followed by a question and answer session, where stakeholders were given the platform to ask questions for clarification, make constructive criticisms and suggest ways to improve on the framework.
The agency would also organise an executive session in Abuja on the 25th of July 2019.
