NJC to Investigate Discrepancies in Kano Guber Election Appeal CTC

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has announced plans to investigate the discrepancies surrounding the certified true copy (CTC) of the Kano State governorship election appeal judgment.
The move follows widespread criticism of the CTC, which appeared to contradict the original judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

The CTC, which was released on November 17, stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s candidate, Yusuf Gawuna, had won the election, while the original judgment had declared the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)’s candidate, Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf, as the winner.

The Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Mohammed Bangari, had acknowledged clerical errors in the CTC but maintained that the original judgment remained valid. However, the discrepancies have raised concerns about the integrity of the judicial process.

But speaking with newsmen, the leader of the delegation disclosed that petitions have been received, adding that the council will treat them according to the rules.

“The petitions that have been written would not be taken immediately, they would have to go through the preliminary complaint assessment, those people would look at it, then send to the plenary, then plenary would look at it and they would set up a committee to look into and the judge and the petitioner would come with their lawyers,” he said.

The NJC has stated that it will treat the petitions it has received regarding the matter according to its established procedures. This will involve a preliminary complaint assessment, followed by a review by the plenary, and the establishment of a committee to investigate the matter.

The NJC’s investigation is expected to shed light on the cause of the discrepancies in the CTC and determine whether any irregularities occurred during the drafting or issuance of the document. The findings of the investigation could have significant implications for the outcome of the governorship election appeal.
