Eyitayo Jegede, who is a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, polled 888 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ondo Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi, who garnered 657 votes.
The primary was keenly contested among the eight aspirants and a total of 2111 delegates from the 18 local government areas voted at the primary.
Other aspirants, Bode Ayorinde scored 95 votes, Banji Okunomo polled 90 votes, Senator Boluwaji Kunlere scored 33 votes, Sola Ebiseni got 29 votes and Godday Erewa polled 14 votes.
Trouble initially started when some PDP youths claimed to have caught some people with thumpprinted ballot papers.
The ballot papers were later discovered to be samples used to enlighten party supporters on mode of voting.
Accreditation of delegates were carried out while voting began at about 2:30pm.
The officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were also present to monitor the process.
The Governor of Enugu State Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who is the Chairman of the PDP Primaries, promised free, fair and credible election.
There was a delay after voting has ended by delegates when 17 names of special delegates surfaced.
It was learnt that the list contained names of former local government chairmen and members of the House of Assembly of the party who defected to other parties and later returned back.
The matter was resolved and they were allowed to cast their votes.
