The circular issued by the Trademark registry reads:

Subject: Introduction of Serial Numbering and Enhanced Treatment of Trademarks Applications in the Registry.
This circular serves to notify all staff, IP Practitioners , agents, and stakeholders that, effective 1st January 2025, the Trademarks Registry will introduce a serial numbering system for the treatment of trademarks applications. This measure is part of our ongoing reforms aimed at improving the efficiency, transparency, and traceability of operations at the Trademarks Registry.
Details of the Serial Numbering System
1.Implementation Scope:
• All trademarks applications submitted to the Registry from 1st January 2025 onward will be assigned a unique serial number at the time of filing.
• This system will apply to all categories of applications, including but not limited to new filings, renewals, amendments, oppositions, and assignments.
2. Serial Number Structure:
• The serial numbers will follow a structured format for easy treatment and tracking via the assigned numbers.
3. Purpose:
• To streamline the processing and examination of applications.
• To enhance accountability and ensure equitable treatment of filings.
• To improve access to information for stakeholders and reduce bottlenecks in service delivery.
Treatment of Trademarks Applications
Effective 1/1/2025 the Registry will adopt the following practices in the handling of applications:
1. First-Come, First-Served Basis: Applications will be processed strictly based on their serial number to ensure fairness and transparency.
2. Real-Time Tracking: Applicants will be able to track and know the status of their applications using the assigned serial number through the Registry’s IPAS platform.
3. Resolution of Pending cases: THE Registry will clear All PENDING IPAS applications filed before 1st January 2025 in order to guarantee smooth take off and operations
