Female students of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar have accused the Dean of Law, Professor Cyril Ndifon of sexually exploiting and harassing them.
In a video shared by a Twitter user and seen by LAWYARD, the female students and their male colleagues were seen protesting in front of the Law Faculty.
The tweet also bore the hashtags #CyrilNdifonMustGo and #ProtectOurGirls.
Tensions flared during the protest as reports emerged about the faculty’s inability to meet deadlines, resulting in graduate students not being mobilized for Nigerian Law School. This context seemingly provided the female students with an opportunity to voice their grievances about sexual harassment and gender-based misconduct that they claim have plagued the academic environment.
The protesting students also displayed placards with disturbing inscriptions like, “We are tired of sucking big dick”, “Professor Ndifon, let the girls with big breast breathe. Stop suffocating us”, “Enough of Law School list manipulation.”
Newsmen gathered that Ndifon was once suspended by the institution over allegations of sexual harassment and other sundry issues but was later recalled.
Newsmen alleged that despite their peaceful demonstration, there are reports that the “powers that be at the University of Calabar” are “making concerted efforts to intimidate the students after exposing professor Ndifon sexual misconducts,” instead of addressing their concerns and allegations, they claim that efforts have been made to silence them.
The university authorities are yet to comment on the scandal.
