"Let Us Keep Moving Until We Get to the Finish Line" Olumide Akpata Thanks Supporters as He Gets Cleared by ECNBA to Contest NBA Elections

The immediate past Chairman of the NBA Section on Business Law, Olumide Akpata was last night cleared by the Electoral Committee of the NBA to contest for the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association – an epoch making event, as he would be the first non-litigator to be ever cleared to contest the NBA Presidential elections.

Olumide Akpata’s candidacy has gained significant momentum and traction across the country since after his announcement that he had picked up the Presidental nomination form.  The support has been coming from all segments of the Bar including from many members of the Inner Bar as seen in the recent endorsements of his candidacy by SANs and many other young and old lawyers.

In a statement issued this morning, Akpata said “Last night, the ECNBA provisionally cleared me and other candidates to contest the 2020 NBA Presidential elections. My team and I are delighted to have crossed this milestone in my quest to lead the Bar to an enviable future. I can only say that the future we seek for the NBA is much closer than we think, and I must thank everyone who has supported so far. Still, we must continue to move until we get to the finish line. We must be propelled by our desire transform the NBA into an Association in which we all find a sense of belonging and from which we all grow and benefit as lawyers and also also set standards for the future”.

He went ahead to call on supporters everywhere to begin to actively advocate for positive change for the NBA and to exercise their franchise when the time is right. He said “My drive to see a better NBA did not start today, so there is no backing down from this race. This is why I urge supporters of my candidacy everywhere to continue to advocate actively for a transformed NBA and to exercise their franchise when the time is right.  Let us give our members hope again and give the society reasons to believe in us.

As always, I remain grateful for your support.”
