THE QUESTIONABLE NATURE OF BOSAN'S ELECTION AUDIT by Ebuka Nwaeze
Everything that is done parallel to and without the concurrence of the National Executive of NBA is a struggle to hijack the leadership from the Constitutionally elected National Officers. This must have been underpinned by lack of confidence in the elected officers!
BOSAN has not shown themselves as having accepted the result of the last election. They accepted the last two, and perhaps, because their members were returned, they saw no need for audit in those years.
Quarre: If one of the SANs had won this election, like the last two elections, would BOSAN have taken such pains as described by Adegboruwa SAN, to usurp their authority?
Is BOSAN an arm of NBA? This effort, in my view, is a reaction to the loss of the Presidential election by BOSAN members.
If they had acted in their capacity as members and elders of NBA, they ought to have met the National Officers and sought ways to assist in achieving an audit and a better organised credible elections in future.
How can a body of individuals set themselves up to control what has not been put in their care? How do they intend to get the data for the proposed audit? Will it be by intimidating, harassing and demanding compliance and capitulation from the elected National officers?
Are they not aware of the committee set up for that objective already? It does not seem that their intention is to assist or work with that committee, but to chart a completely different course. Why the multiplicity of committees and efforts, if the objective is the same? The only reason I can see from where I stand, is that BOSAN does not believe in the existing committee! This, despite that it is led by a SAN.
Whatever their motive is, they ought to follow the law. Or has BOSAN acquired the right to regulate and supervise NBA? If it is about the best of intentions alone, as Adegboruwa SAN implies, why has BOSAN not audited the Nigerian elections? Or do they not have good intentions about Nigeria?
It is unbelievable that a body of respectable people will feign ignorance of their lawful boundaries.
So, in the final analysis, if the National Officers of NBA decline a request for access to the election data or portal, what will happen?
